Specialist Call for Abstracts

Acceptance Notices
We have had an excellent response to our call for papers and we received over 600 abstracts which are now being reviewed by the Scientific Committee. All those who submitted abstracts will hear from the Committee at least two weeks before the end of the Early Bird Registration on 31st January 2010.

New Specialist Call
In response to on-going interest from practitioners, we are pleased to announce a new specialist call for abstracts with a particular focus on social work practice in the area of health and mental health. These can be either presented as

  • Oral presentations from one contributor
  • B. Practice-focused workshop sessions (60-90 minutes) facilitated by a number of presenters. These workshops should be designed to allow practitioners to share their work in a more detailed and participatory way with their audience. This call is open until 17.00 hrs GMT on 22 February 2010. Please note that papers already submitted should not be re-submitted for this call. You are about to start recording the details about your abstract. At the end of this process you will be asked to upload the abstract. The document you will be asked to upload at the end of this form must be a MS Word document (.doc not .rtf ) and must adhere to the guidelines below.
  • Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that the correct file has been uploaded onto the online system. The abstract you upload will be the abstract used for the Dublin Programme if selected by the Dublin Planning and Programme Committee. No revised abstracts will be accepted for the programme after the closing date for submissions.

Changing Heath 2010 has been approved by the National Association of Social Workers (provider #886529273) for 44 continuing education contact hours.

Please note that the abstract document must contain the title and authors details (as per the instructions below). You will also have to fill in these details in the fields below.


Guidelines for Abstract Document:
Guidelines for submission of your abstract

  • Abstracts can only be submitted electronically as a single document in MS Word.
  • Use the author name as the name of the file.
  • The abstract should be a maximum of 600 words, abstracts which have more than the maximum number of words will be returned.
  • The abstract should be submitted in bold, normal case, 12 point, Arial single space, left-aligned text. Leave at least one space between the title and the author/s and leave a single space between paragraphs in each section.
  • Write the abstract in English.
  • Indicate preference for an oral and/or poster presentation.
  • Save and submit as a single document in MSWord. Please note it is your responsibility to ensure that the correct file has been uploaded onto the online system.
  • Ensure that your submission reaches us by 1st November 2009. It will be acknowledged with an abstract number.
  • Each abstract will be circulated for peer review and final assessment by the Conference International Committee.
Format of abstract to be submitted:
  • Name of Author/s - List in order of principal author, second author etc. List family name, then first name or initials (not qualifications/title or organisation) and set text to left.
  • Title of Abstract
  • Overall topic for presentation
  • Methodology if a research paper
  • Findings
  • Conclusions/Implications for Practice
